PETS

Each family may bring a maximum of 5 pets into France.

FROM EU COUNTRIES

If you come from an EU country, you'll need to obtain a European Pet Passport for each animal you wish to bring with you to France. This is a booklet containing an identification number and proof of current vaccinations.

The passport may only be issued by a licensed vet. Both the passport and the relevant vaccinations should be kept current by the vet.

Before issuing an EU Pet Passport, the vet will confirm that the animal has been identified with a microchip in the neck or tattoo in the ear and that all rabies vaccinations are up to date.

For more information on bringing your pets into France, EU Pet Passports and electronic tagging, see the UK French Embassy's page on the importation of animals into France.

FROM NON-EU COUNTRIES

An animal entering France from a non-EU country that has the same rabies controls need only prove that the anti-rabies vaccinations are valid and up-to-date.

For a list of complying countries see the EUROPA website

Animals from non-complying countries need to have complete anti-rabies treatment. Check with your local French Embassy.

Animals from the US and Canada may enter France if they have:

  • a valid Veterinary Certificate (details of vaccinations),
  • valid rabies vaccines,
  • a tattoo or a microchip (compatible with standards ISO-11784).

Once in France, a French vet can issue an EU Pet Passport allowing travel within Europe.
