In France you can receive medical treatment at hospitals (both public and private), private clinics and hospices.
At both public and private hospitals within the social security system, 80% of medical expenses are reimbursed for the first month and 100% thereafter. The daily accommodation charge (forfait journalier) for a hospital stay (€16 per day) is not reimbursed, so it is advisable to have a complementary Private health insurance scheme.
Patients will not be reimbursed for treatment at specialised private clinics operating outside the social security system. Hospice treatment, usually reserved for the chronically or terminally ill, is almost fully reimbursed by the Sécurité Sociale.
